Mel Johnson is currently serving as Chair of the WHPA Gap Analysis and Stakeholder Action Plan (GAPs) Working Group under the direction of the Council of Advisors (COA).
As Principal of DEO, Mel Johnson provides professional consulting and project management services with subject matter expertise in HVAC and energy efficiency solutions.
Over the past seven years, Mel provided significant contributions to the proliferation of energy efficiency in the HVAC sector through his roles at SCE, NCI, and KEMA Services. That led to his involvement in the chartering of the WHPA and its CQM, CQI, and RQI committees.
During his more than five years at SCE, he was responsible for leading the shutdown of the Commercial RCA (Tune Up) programs in 2009 and the development and launch of HVAC Optimization using the ASHRAE/ACCA/ANSI Standard 180. In addition, he led a team to initiate the launches of Early Retirement, WE&T, and the design and development of CQI.
With regard to the HVAC industry, in 2006 Johnson went into the energy efficiency market after two decades of HVAC industry experience as a technician, service leader, service and sales manager, executive sales and account management at Honeywell International, Home and Buildings Solutions, Yamas Controls Inc., and Occidental College. In these roles, he sold systems and equipment, managed projects, and also serviced systems as large as campus-wide central plants for the State of California, for colleges, universities, local government, and large commercial customers as well as small retail chains with multiple sites and packaged unitary equipment.
Mel holds his B.A. and his Masters in Theology. He spends lot of time with his family.
